Theatre partnership puts ‘age friendly’ centre stage
Yorkshire law firm Keebles is supporting a series of age friendly and dementia friendly events spearheaded by Cast – a charity recognised as the home of world-class theatre in Doncaster.
The partnership, launched during Dementia Action Week on May 21-27, sees the practice, formerly known as hlw Keeble Hawson, become Cast’s official ‘Age Friendly Partner’.
The firm, which has a wealth of expertise in the charitable sector and assists wide-ranging local and regional charities, will support a series of sessions spanning dementia-friendly classic films, party afternoons and drama performances taking place across September 2018 to February 2019.
Established in 2013, Cast was an early adopter of the Age-Friendly Standards which aim to provide a welcoming and positive experience for everyone, regardless of their age.
Sian Dudley Head of marketing and communications, said: “In the UK one person develops dementia every three minutes. Many people face the condition alone and feel excluded from society – which is why we’re launching a rich and engaging dementia friendly programme.
“Keebles has a strong track record and reputation working with charities and its ‘age-friendly’ ethos highly complements our vision and goals. We’re excited and delighted to have the firm on board.”
Jo Miller, chief executive of Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, said: “Doncaster is a Dementia Friendly town and I’m delighted to see the private, public and charity sectors working together to improve the quality of life for our local older people.”
Keebles partner, Sarah Burton, said: “It is widely acknowledged that creative and cultural participation is the most prominent indicator to wellbeing in later life.
“We were impressed and inspired by Cast’s commitment to help overcome the multiple barriers which older people and dementia sufferers encounter and we look forward to supporting the sessions which are designed to enrich their lives.”
Guests at the partnership launch included representatives of Age UK who enjoyed a performance of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ following the event.
