Sheffield Christmas Shoe Box Appeal 2020
2020 has presented some unforeseen challenges but if it has taught us anything it is to never take anything for granted and to appreciate every moment in life, including those special people around us. Unfortunately, not everyone is lucky enough to have a positive outset, especially during this difficult time. Since lockdown in March, many individuals (especially the elderly) are lonely, families are struggling to provide and mental health is at an all time high and this is why the Christmas Shoe Box Appeal 2020 is more important than ever to help lift spirits.
What is the Shoebox Appeal?
The Christmas shoe box appeal is a charity organisation to help the vulnerable and lonely people receive gifts at the most special time of the year, Christmas. The recipients include homeless people, young adults in temporary accommodation, hostels and safe refuges and elderly who are in care homes or who are socially isolated.
What items go in the Shoebox Appeal?
There are many items that will go a long way for those in need but the most essential items are things such as:
- Gloves/ Scarves & Hats
- Toothpaste / Toothbrush
- Deodorants / Sprays
- Shower Gel and Shampoo
- Little Treats
- Sachets of Hot Chocolate
- Small puzzle books, pack of cards, small games
- Pens, mugs, keyrings etc
- and of course, Christmas cards!
Support & Statistics
Last year in 2019, the Sheffield Shoebox Appeal Charity collected 3,208 shoe boxes and distributed these to males, females, mother and babies, children and the elderly.
Due to Coronavirus this year, they are not expecting as many boxes this year and need all the support they can get.
