I’m an executor, what do I do next?
Executors are the people named within a Will, who are entitled to deal with the administration of the estate. They are responsible for making sure that the wishes contained within the Will are carried out, legally and efficiently.
Before you are able to begin collecting in the assets of the estate, it is possible that you will need to obtain a Grant of Probate. This document is the Court’s formal confirmation of your appointment as Executor and can be obtained on application to the Probate Registry.
To start the process, you should:
- Locate the original Will
- Register the death and make any funeral arrangements
- Collect a list of the estate assets and liabilities
You are then ready to speak to one of our team members, who will advise you of the next steps and meet with you to support you through the administration process.
